Lots of geese here now.

Photos were taken yesterday morning.

It was -17,4 C (0,9F) outside when I woke up yesterday morning. The sun was rising and we went out on our walk out on the fields. It was surprisingly nice! The absence of wind can make even the coldest day feel rather wonderful. I heard birds singing spring songs which felt a bit odd since it was so cold 🙂

The Jackdaws have guarded their chimney all winter long. Good and vacant chimneys are hard to come by.

The crust on the snow was so hard that it carried my weight!

I haven’t seen any crane yet but we have rather many geese here now. My work friend heard cranes yesterday though so I guess it won’t take long until I can hear them here too. I do hope the weather predictions are right now when they say it will get warmer from tomorrow because it can’t be nice for the birds when it is this cold, no matter how much they feed them 🙂 We will have sunshine until Thursday and when the weekend comes it’ll be cloudy, of course it will I am after all not working then 🙂 🙂

The chimney sweeper was here today so now’s my chimney clean again. I did think I should cut up some fire wood but I didn’t have the energy when I came home 🙂 If the predictions are right I won’t have to anyway but it is always nice to hear that wood crackle in the stove. I would have started a fire if I had had fire wood when I came home though because it snowed a lot all the way home from work. I think it has stopped now but they say it can come more during the evening and the night.

It is time to make something to eat and after that try to stay awake in front of the tv and that’s not easy 🙂

Have a great day!

  1. Hi Christer,
Beautiful photos today. Lots of lovely light on the snow and the frosty trees.

What did do jackdaws do before there were chimneys to nest in? Hollow trees? Rock “chimneys” on cliffs? I shall have to google it, maybe.

Here it has been hanging right around freezing during the day and there’s been brisk wind every day. Nights have been down in the very low numbers. The sun is shining brightly all day long, though, so the snow crust is fragile. Rotting snow, I call it. The dogs are falling through it now and they are not happy.

    Enjoy the evening.

    1. Hi Caryn!

It was an amazing morning and the weather has been much the same today but much warmer 🙂

I know we have one Jackdaw couple who nest in an old woodpecker hole so I guess holes are important to them. I have never in my entire life seen a nest in the open.

Nasty cold this morning but rather pleasant during the day. I know this because a work friend of mine was outside inthe sunshine. I looked at it through a window 🙂

Rotting snow is a good name for it 🙂

WP has now taken the problem with me having to approve You every time to a higher level 🙂 The one trying to help me first, I think one can see him as the friendly and knowledgeable neighbor, couldn’t do anything so he passed it on to the ones knowing even more. I’m waiting for an e-mail from them but I guess it can take some time 🙂

      Have a great day!

  2. we have a snow storm predicted for tomorrow and i hope they are right. i am not ready for spring yet but then, i never really am. they say we will have a cool rainy spring. i sure hope so!

    1. Hi Joyce!

I do hope You’ll get that snow storm since You actually like it 🙂 🙂

The geese, dogs, cats and I are more than ready for spring now 🙂 🙂 Here they say that the chilly weather might continue through the entire April. I’m not happy.

      Have a great day!

  3. Christer,
The morning sun on the snow is lovely. I agree about the wind. Even when it is cold having no wind makes the day bearable. We have had cold days with wind. I run from the car to the house.

It is still winter here. We are expecting more snow on Wednesday. The amount is now 1-3 inches but it will be heavy snow. Boston could get as many as 8 inches.

More and more of my front garden is coming alive. I check every day when I get the newspapers. I guess the flowers know spring is coming.

    Have a great day!

    1. Hi Kat!

It was such a nice morning despite that it was so cold. The wind never really behaves like one wants to, does it 🙂 If it blows in winter it just gets nasty and if it blows on dry and warm summers it’s almost just as nasty because it is like living in a hair dryer 🙂 🙂

I do hope the snow will stay away from You (and here too 🙂 ) but I guess we will get more anyway 🙂

Nothing shows here yet, not even the Redberried elderberry bushes show any signs of life yet and they usually start early in February 🙂 🙂

      Have a great day!
