It felt like evening all day.

This is long after the sun had risen behind the mountain but it still felt like it was evening.

We’ve had one of those days that has been so grey and cloudy that it never really seemed to start. The daylight didn’t have a chance to pass those clouds so it has felt like we’ve had early evening al day today. Still there was no wind and the temperature just below 0C (32F) so it was still quite nice when we were out walking. The hunters came early so instead of walking in the forest we went out on the fields. I really can’t complain about them being here today because they have mostly been on the other side of the forest most of this season.

It hasn’t been the most eventful day in my life 🙂 We have mostly been indoors napping in front of the tv and today I did the laundry too. I still have a few things to wash tomorrow but that won’t take long. I should have vacuumed the floors but I just don’t have the energy to do it, I’ve never been this tired any winter before. I guess it might be a cold that won’t break out for some reason but still makes me tired. I do wish it would change its mind because I’m tired of being tired 🙂

We don't have Kardinals here but we do have Bullfinches.

The sowing season has started :-), well it did two weeks ago when I started with the kernels I got from Caryn. They are from Prunus maritima or Beach plum and I haven’t found them anywhere even though I have looked a lot. So guess if I was happy when she sent me a lot of those kernels 🙂 They need to be kept moist and warm for one month before it is time to place them cold. Today I was going to sow kernels from what we call sour cherries (Prunus cerasus), they taste sweet at first and the after taste is a bit bitter. The only thing is that I can’t find them 🙂

It started to snow when we went out for a walk again but it didn't last for longer than a few minutes, can't say I'm sorry about that :-)

I finally remembered that I’ve put them in one of those plastic containers I get my film in (for the old cameras), now I only have to remember where I put that container 🙂 It’s really annoying when I can’t remember where I put things or when I think I know but still can’t find what ever it is 🙂 I will find them though and thankfully they don’t need a month in a warm place so I still have plenty of time to find them 🙂 Later today or tomorrow I’ll go to my favorite seed firm, Gardens North, in Canada. It is specialised in plants growing in tougher climate zones. No I’m not paid to tell You this, I just like that business so much that I gladly write about it here.

I don’t think there’s anything good on tv tonight so I better find myself a book or perhaps see if I have any dvd I would like to watch.

Have a great day!

  1. Hi Christer,
Wow, that bullfinch really pops in the snow. Just like cardinals. Of course, cardinals can disappear in the branches really well which is weird considering how very red they are.

I gave you the wrong name for the dog boots the other day. They are called Muttluks. Here’s the link. https://muttluks.com

It’s snowing heavily here now. It started around noon as light snow but quickly ramped up. Visibility is not very good. I was going to go to the grocery store but I think I will just stay home until tomorrow. I hope the snow blower works. It’s been in storage about a year. We didn’t get enough snow last winter to bother with it. This storm is supposed to be 8 to 12 inches. It’s looking good for that.

    Enjoy the day.

    1. Hi Caryn!

It sure does but just like the cardinal it can vanish in a forest 🙂

I got better results with muttluks 🙂 I do hope the pet store I usually goes too has them. It syas that one should see how they fit before buying any otherwise it would be easier to just buy them directly online.

I’m glad we didn’t get much snow here, now it’s foggy outside but my guess is that it will disappear before we cgo out for our walk but I still hope 🙂
But didn’t You try it once last winter just to see if it worked? I’m pretty sure You wrote about it here. I do hope it does though because 8-12 inches is a lot!

      Have a great day!

  2. Hi Christer! Sorry to hear that the day felt like evening all day – that’s my kind of day! I prefer cloudy days to sunny ones. Summer or winter doesn’t matter. I actually REALLY dislike sunny days in the winter because its typically a bitter cold day then. Like yesterday. I think the windchill was -34 all day. Yuck. And yes, it was sunny 🙂

I need to check out that Garden North a bit more. I have a few favorite seed/plant places online. One of them is Vesey’s. They have some areas in their catalogue for tough climates like mine. Also one in our very own province but the name escapes me at the moment. Its in Morden, Manitoba that’s as much as I can remember at 0544 am 🙂

Today will have me running around which is the usual for the weekends. I hope the wind chill stays decent. We are expected some more snow today and then some more heavy stuff starting tomorrow. Knowing your fervent dislike for snow, you would not be happy here this year. We have snow banks as tall as me, and I am 5’10”!!! Lots this year.

    Have a good day!

    1. Hi Dianna!

I always prefer sunny days no matter how cold they are 🙂 The same in summer, I can always stand still all day just as long as the sun shines 🙂

We have a pretty good seed firm here in Sweden too, Impecta it’s called and I do buy seeds from the botanical garden in Gothenburg some times. Still I prefer GN since I’ve never been disppointed with the seeds I buy from that firm.

I think that if I didn’t have to go to work every day I actually would tolerate snow, not like it but tolerate it 🙂 They are predicting colder weather again late next week and just before that it will snow. I really don’t like it since it will rain the day before that, the roads will be nasty to drive on I’m afraid.

      Have a great day!

      Christer.

      Christer.

  4. Christer,
The birds are beautiful on the bare branches against the grey sky. Their colors just pop. Winter has so little color that the birds are most welcome.

I sometimes forget why I went to the kitchen. I also can’t find some stuff, can’t remember where I put them. Mostly I have specific places for stuff so I’m surprised when whatever I want isn’t where I expect it to be.

I have every station cable offers, Amazon Prime and Netflix, but all of that sometimes doesn’t matter. There is nothing on I want to watch. Luckily, shows are starting again after a hiatus. Grimm will have its second show tomorrow.

    Enjoy your day!!

    1. Hi Kat!

Still it is almost impossible to see those birds in the forest 🙂 I do like to see them here in the village, they are quite shy normally.

I too have specific places for most of my things but still I sometimes put them elsewhere and then it is impossible to find them 🙂 I actually went in to the kitchen today to do something and I still can’t remember what it was I wanted to do 🙂

I can get lots of channels via the antenna if I want to but I hate it when I need to get ten other channels I really don’t want to have just to get the one I want!Grimm thankfully is shown in one of the free channels here but I still don’t know when they’ll start showing it here. I got a link to a site where I actually can see it the same day over here but I haven’t gone through the fine print yet.

      Have a great day!

      Christer.
