It’s time to put up the bird feeders.

All photos shown today was taken either yesterday afternoon or much earlier in the year. This is the hunting lodge, not big enough to let more than a few people in but they are making an outdoor space where one can have a fire burning and grill hotdogs :-)

I’m at home today, I have a little fever and is coughing some and my nose is runny and my throat hurts a bit and I’m a tired. It’s nothing to a near death experience like it usually is with us men but I can still get there 🙂 The weather this morning has mostly been cloudy with some drizzling but at the moment I can see the sun shine through the clouds like a white dot in all the grey.

It had been so cold during the night that there still was some ice on the puddles even if I took this photo around 1pm.

The Pope is visiting Sweden this week, I’m not a catholic so I really can’t understand how important this is for some people. To me he’s just a rather cool guy who many has opinions that doesn’t seem to be the same that the Catholic church has but he really doesn’t change anything within the church as I see it. Change comes slow in such a big organization though, after all it isn’t that long since they accepted that the earth was rotating around the sun and not the other way around. Well, he’s welcome and I hope everything goes well.

I need to put up the bird feeders for the winter. I had them hanging on a rack I made from old lilac trunks but they got old and it all fell down in the last strong wind before spring came. Now I’m thinking of somehow managing to hang the feeders in the big lilacs  but the branches aren’t that strong and the lilacs have grown a bit wild so there isn’t that much space in between the branches to be honest. It’s a good spot though because the lilacs give the birds protection against the goshawks and sparrow hawks. It is also close enough to the cottage that those hawks won’t have lots of space to maneuvering to reach them.

It looked like the little water there was in the creek didn't move at all.

They have now changed the snow predictions, both the Norwegian and Swedish site. The Swedish says some snow on Wednesday but mixed with rain big parts of the day and the Norwegian says rain. The snow they predicted for the weekend is gone on both places. I must admit that it doesn’t bother me if the snow won’t come at all 🙂 I can survive a winter that is warm and snow free without any problems at all 🙂 Especially November is dreary as it is so a snow free November would just be a positive thing 🙂

They had actually made this "bridge" much better this time. Worked perfectly for me but not at all for the dogs.

The only good thing with this November is that the first of Advent is on Sunday the 27th, that’s when one can say Christmas, or Jul, starts here in Sweden. That’s when we put Advent candle sticks and Advent stars in our windows and Julmust with gingerbread are a must 🙂 and the closer to Jul the more homes will start to burn down because people tend to forget putting out the candles before leaving for work. Another tradition is to burn down the biggest straw goat in the world. They build one every year in the city of Gävle and for some reason it has become a tradition to burn it down. It is od course illegal but the ones doing that obviously don’t care. There are lots about it on the net if You are interested 🙂

But more about our traditions closer to christmas, now it’s time to take a nap I think.

Have a great day!

  1. Hi Christer,
It looks a very neat and tidy hunter’s lodge even if it is small. An outside place to grill sausages is a very good idea. I doubt it could be done safely inside.
The bridge is a bit iffy. Pile some tree branches across the creek and pound some stakes into the creek bed to keep the branches from spreading apart when someone tries to cross. Good for people with big shod feet. Not so good for dog paws. Did they at least nail those stakes across the branches? I would have.

I love, love, love that last photo. 🙂

No snow in my weather forecast either. 🙂 Some sun, more clouds, colder temperatures, no rain. I hope there’s enough sun to recharge the solar house number thingy I have. I had to bring it in and put it under a lamp all day yesterday because it had stopped glowing after a week of no sun.

May your cold go away and not come back for a good long while.
    Enjoy the day.

    1. Forgot to tell you since you were speaking of bird feeders. I was at my brother’s house yesterday and saw a leucistic chickadee at his feeder. I thought at first it was one of those white and blue parakeets. But it did finally sit long enough for me to see that it was an almost completely white black-capped chickadee. It did have some black on the wings and head but the rest was white. Of course there are no photos because I was there for dinner not photography. :/ But it was cool just the same.

      1. That’s rare! I found a few on the net and they look very cute 🙂 It should be a good camoflague if the winter gets snowy I guess but not so good during summer 🙂

    2. Hi Caryn!

I doubt that more than four people fit in that lodge 🙂 They built it so small because if it was bigger they would nee permission to do so and that would probably cost a lot of money. It is a very nice place though.

The bridge works for most people unless one has very tiny feet 🙂 Dogs do have problems though 🙂 Yes it is nailed and very steady to walk on. I thought it woulkd be very slippery but those tree trunks are so young that there was no or very little moss and algea on them yet.

I do like that one too 🙂

Lots and lots of rain will fall today they say but so far it’s just misty rain. It eats its way through clothes but really doesn’t give a lot to the ground.

The cold still hangs around but itb could be worse.

      Have a great day!

      Christer.

  2. Christer,
That last picture is fantastic. It reminds me of Gracie and Fern though it is Fern who was sleeping on Gracie’s legs sleeping.

Around here the Christmas seasons starts just after Christmas when people put up their outside lights. It seems every year there are more decorated houses. Also, the garden centers will start selling Christmas trees. I usually wait until early December to buy mine.

I also need to put up my feeders. I took them down in July when we were supposed to have a hurricane type wind. I have seed so there is no sense waiting.

    Have a great day!!

    1. Hi Kat!

Neither Nova nor Sune likes to sleep close to any of the cats but Albin just wants to sleep close to anyone 🙂

No one starts selling christmas trees here until very late November/early December. Many here have the tradition to buy the tree the day before Christmas eve and not decorating it until the day after. My family always bought our tree on December 13th and we dressed it the same day. Normally we tossed out the tree on December 27th 🙂

I have seeds too so I’ll put them up this weekend. There’s still lots to eat for them but I like to watch them fly to the feeders 🙂

      Have a great day!

      Christer.
