It tried to sting me.

We’ve had strong winds here now for two days, I won’t say storm strength but rather close to it. I can as always not notice much of it here but I can hear it and I did feel it when we were out walking after work. If I hadn’t known this means we’ll only get 13C 55,4F) tomorrow I would have said I love it 🙂 The Arctic weather is never far away up here in Sweden.

The itching in my wasp stung are is almost gone now but what’s left comes and goes in waves so when it starts to itch it really itch and suddenly it’s gone again. My arm is at least back to normal size again. I can’t have any door or window open now if I don’t have mosquito nets, the wasps get in everywhere. This morning I shook my trousers and out fell a wasp. It fell towards my leg and I could feel that it tried to sting me but this time it missed. It is now very dead and I have to admit that I smiled while killing it.

I tried to have Albin in my lap while writing but that didn’t work 🙂 He fe´ll asleep and almost fell down on the floor 🙂 Before he fell asleep he was all over my face trying to figure out what I had been eating during the day and also see if he could use my glasses as a chew toy 🙂 He already weighs  6,5 kilos ( 14,3 lb) so he’s growing fast even if I can’t see it myself. I never saw Orvar as big and he did after all weigh 50Kg (110 lb) 🙂 He was also over 75cm high (30 inches) high at withers. To me he still wasn’t bigger than he was as a puppy 🙂

It is time to make something to eat and perhaps a cup of tea too even if I risk staying awake all night 🙂

Have a great day!

  1. Hi Christer! Wasps are getting bad here now too. I hope that your cooler weather will send them into hibernation – or wherever they go when they disappear. If its not mosquitoes for us, its flies and wasps. Just depends on the time of year.

Karma weighs in at around 90 pounds now. I am sure she’s stopped growing but man is she ever heavy and just large. I call her the giant puppy because that’s what she is. When she wants to sit in your lap she covers you. I am 5 feet 10 inches tall and I feel tiny when she sits on me! I never feel tiny….

I like the storm/angry cloud picture! Lots of that going around here too. We had such winds yesterday it was incredible. 3 tornadoes also yesterday in the province. My husband did not go out chasing because he would have had to leave in the morning – and he had to go to work. The bills need to be paid!!!!

I hope the tea didn’t make you wide awake and hope it was just the opposite!

    1. Hi Dianna!

The queens are staying for a while before going in to hibernation but all the workers will die and they are usually quite pissed about it too 🙂 That’s when they really get aggressive. So I do hope this cold weather we’ll have now for a few days will at least start that process. Very few mosquitos this year and very few other blood drinking flies too 🙂

They usually say that dogs stop growing at the age of one and a half, how old is she? She might be a 100 plus dog too 🙂 🙂

No tornados around here but the winds were really strong and they have kept on blowing all day today too but now it seesm they are calming down. Lots of rain today as well so Albin didn’t want to take a walk at all 🙂 It¨’s always those bills 🙂

Slept like a baby all night 🙂

      Have a great day!

      Christer.

  2. Hi Christer,
It’s not surprising that Arctic weather is never very far from you. The Arctic is a lot closer to you.

Albin is what you might call a sturdily built young pup. He weighs more than Piki Dog and almost as much as Rocky.
I always tell people not to let Piki Dog anywhere near their faces. He’ll be licking your teeth. And he eats rabbit poo so, you don’t really want him to be licking your teeth.

Not a lot of wasps here. I think it’s been too dry. I saw one yesterday but it was busy with burdock flowers and paid no attention to me. There must be something you can spray on the nests from afar. We have wasp spray in a can that can shoot a strong stream over 20 feet. My kind of wasp spray. 🙂

Today is summer warm and sunny. It’s comfortable in the house without AC but with fans. I can feel the humidity starting to rise, though.

    Enjoy the day.

    1. Hi Caryn!

Yes it lots closer to me 🙂 but we usually don’t notice that esapecially much during the summer.

He is! and he grows fast too. It won’t be long until heäs as big as Sune but I do think Nova will be bigger than him since she’s part Bordercollie too.
I always try to avoid getting licked in the face by dogs, we all know where they have been and what they’ve been eating 🙂 I guess our immune systems does get to work a lot 🙂

This has been a wasp year but the three previous ones weren’t. It was that hot early spring that gave them the chanse this year. I do like warm and early springs but I’äm notr sure I want this much wasps again 🙂 I wonder if we have that spray too? I want it!!! I think that is the right distance too 🙂

Windy and rainy today and rather cold. It didn’t take long before Albin wanted to go home 🙂

      Have a great day!

      Christer.

      1. It’s called Raid Wasp and Hornet Killer. Made by S.C. Johnson. They sell in Sweden and other European countries so maybe you can find it. I’ve used it before and it works well. Yellow jackets had built a huge nest in the space between the vinyl siding and the shingle siding on my house. It was right beside a bedroom window. Yellow jackets everywhere. It was a shallow nest but it spread out several feet inside that space. I think I emptied the entire can. I was making sure. 🙂

  3. Hi Christer, Glad the wasp got its just due because to me the only “good” wasp is a dead one. I would have been a bit freaked out to find one in my clothing and with my luck it would have pursued me as I said before they seem to sense my intense dislike of them. Looks like you have some really nice weather now, despite the winds. I thought I saw those trees bending in the photo!

    1. Hi Beatrice!

I’ve started to think like that too now 🙂 I’m really tired of getting stung by them now. I think this one was exhausted after being in the cottage for over a day, so I do feel lucky it didn’t get me 🙂

The winds I don’t mind but today it also rained a lot. It was so bad when we were out walking that Albin gave up and just wanted to go home 🙂

      Have a great day!

  4. Christer,
I always think black and white shots bring us back to an earlier time. I think that’s one of the reasons I use black and white pictures on my blog.

Today is brutally hot and humid. I went out to get the paper in the morning and th0ught it was awful out, but when I went out this afternoon to water the plants, I figured I was in a sauna. That’s how humid it was.

It will be the same tomorrow, but I have to do a couple of errands. I’ll have to cool the car before I go out.

We had about ten minutes of rain yesterday which wasn’t enough. One of the reservoirs used by several towns for water is almost dry. We need rain badly.

I’m glad your bite is better.

    Have a great evening!

    1. Hi Kat!
      t
Yes they do but some color photos do too if the colors get slightly too light, sometimes they look just like older photos from the 50’s and 60’s.

Anythng but brutally hot here, I’ll write about it in todays post.

It has been raining on and off here but I doubt that we have gotten especially much to be honest, it’s mostly misty rain or short showers. No small creeks or ditches have any water in them now and the water level in the rivers are very low so I guess we need this rain but I hope it can wait some time more because I think the fly larvae will have big problems surviving in this dry soil 🙂

      Have a great day!

      Christer.
