I just had to buy it.

I’ve gotten my voice back, more or less anyway 🙂 I can almost sing along when I hear a song on the radio but I still have some problems with the highs and lows but I’m getting there 🙂 No coughing during night or at least not enough to wake me up so it feels like life has won over the cold 🙂 I can’t even pretend that I’ve liked the weather so far but it sure has been good for my cold, I have had to rest whether I wanted it or not.

We woke up at 4 today and went out into a rather chilly but sunny world, still a bit too warm for fog to be created but enough cold to keep most flies calm. Now the sky is cloudy but it is still a bit chilly outside, I tried to have the kitchen door open for a while but it just got too cold indoors. They say that this is how the weather will be for a while now, sunny and chilly mornings and cloudy and most likely rainy afternoons.

Yesterday I opened the fuse box and there was still one pretty angry but rather confused wasp living in the net. As soon as she had flown away I removed the old nest, they are actually quite beautiful. At the same time I realised a fuse was broken, so I replaced it. It didn’t take five seconds before it broke again. I changed again and the fuse broke. It is the one controlling the garage and I have been out there looking for eventual dead mice/ rats who have chewed on the cables but I couldn’t find anything. My guess is that it is one of the outdoor lamps that has shorted. I’ll take a deeper look into that later but I do want power there when winter arrives so I can turn on the radiator in the dog house.

I went to the super market this morning, I like going there before nineish because there’s usually no one else there at that time. There are lots of people there when they open at 7 but that’s workers who buy breakfast and/ or lunch there before going to work, after that it’s quite calm for a few hours. I did for once actually buy all things I wanted and after that I walked around to see if I could find anything else that tempted me enough to buy it, sadly to say there was very little that did. I did see a few dvd’s for sale but none I really wanted so I walked out to the plant department.

Everything out there was for sale but still very little tempted me. That is until I saw that they sold white currant bushes (well to call it a bush is to exaggerate a lot, it is more like a stick with two branches on it 🙂 ) they only cost 20 Swedish kronor which is around $ 2,3 US. I mean that is so cheap I really should have bought two but they are very easy to propagate so if I like the berries I can easily multiply tit myself. Now I’ll only have to find a place for it and I still have two small hazelnut bushes to find places for aswell.

I actually managed to mow half the lawn yesterday and the parts outside my garden too. The grass was really high and very wet  so I had to stop once every minute to get all the wet grass that clogged the mower but I did it 🙂 I di think for a while that I would take the rest too but thankfully it started to rain and it’s never a good thing to mow in rain with an electric mower, the cord was getting wet enough as it was in the cut wet grass. I think I’ll take the rest today but only if the strong winds continue to blow, otherwise the flies will annoy me to insanity 🙂

The Painted Lady, our migrating butterfly. I hope this was a female about to place its eggs before it would die. They can't survive here so the ones coming up here to Scandinavia next summer are the descendants to the ones migrating south this autumn.

Nova waiting for me to stop eating raspberries, she was so bored having to wait all the time 🙂

It is time for a pot of tea and perhaps a sandwich too. I’m not that hungry to be honest, I’ve eaten lots of berries on our walks 🙂 but one can never get too much tea in the morning. It looks like the sun is peaking through the clouds again so I’ll make Sune happy by opening the kitchen door again. I’ve noticed that I have plenty of wasps nests beneath the tiles and just above the kitchen door but so far they’ve ignored us, thankfully 🙂

Sometimes spruts break from the potatoes when they are put into the ground (or earlier of course). Those can actually be planted and give potatoes too. So I plantes a few in pots and my old laundry bin :-) I hope I at least will get a few big potatoes from them.

    1. Hi Joyce!

I’ve never had the white one but have eaten it several years ago. Tastes lot like the red one if I remember right but perhaps a bit sweeter. My red ones are realy sour so that would be nice if that was right 🙂

I used to have our bittersweet growing in my garden but I haven’t seen it this year, plenty out in the nature though.

Yes finally! Still the odd cough and very little energy but it is going the right way 🙂

      have a great day!

  2. Hi Christer,
That first photo, (not the wasp nest) is absolutely beautiful. I love the way the light picks out the flowers on the roadside.

Nova’s body language does seem to be saying “For heaven’s sake, hurry up and swallow”. 🙂

I saw the potato flowers and thought they looked exactly like bitter nightshade. Not surprising, really, since they are in the same Nightshade family along with tomatoes and a whole lot of other things we regularly eat.

The sweet cherries sound a lot like the wild Concord grapes that are all around here. When you bite into them, there’s a burst of sweetness followed by some serious sourness and astringency. Yet Concord grapes are the ones that go into all the frozen juices and commercial grape jellies. Concord grapes and a ton of sugar or corn syrup, I guess. 🙂

Today is sunny and hot with a chance of showers or T storms. I hope we get rain because we need rain. The weather person is saying that most of the severe storms will peter out before they get to my part of the state but some rain might make it through.

Glad your voice is mostly back and you are coughing up a run anymore. 🙂

    Enjoy the day.

    1. Hi Caryn!

The morning sun is great that way, half an hour later and it would have been impossible to take that photo.

Yes she really wanted me to get my thumbs out 🙂 The old boys didn’t mind, they ate even more raspberries than I 🙂 Back then a short walk could take hours depending on how good the berry year was 🙂

Yes they are very similar, these are so much bigger though. I’ve always liked potato flowers so I do quite often plant some in the regular flowerbeds too, not this year though. It is a big family and plenty of them can be potted plants too but the flowers usually arenb’t long lived.

It is odd but they normally never sell grape juice here but instead it is mixed in in a lot of other juices, I guess grape juice is much cheaper than the other kinds and is rather neutral in its taste. I did however not know that it is the concord grape they make it from. Lots of bitter fruits get sweeter if they are frozen one or two nights, perhaps they do that tothe berries? but it sounds like corn syrup is a cheaper choise 🙂 🙂

Mostly cloudy today and unfortunately the wind died out so I had to wear the mosquito hat when mowing the lawn, we have zillions of them now but thankfully very few biting ones. I think I heard the thunder for a while but it never reached us here.

It is nice to be able tospeak again 🙂

      Have a great day!

      Christer.

      1. I closed up the house and turned on the AC because it was getting really humid. The house got cool pretty quickly. Then I decided to set up my wireless printer and the only electrical outlet available downstairs was the one dedicated to the air conditioner so I unplugged it.
The process was going along smoothly despite the fact that I couldn’t (and still can’t) figure out where the USB cord plugs into the printer. But set up could be done without it. It was starting to get a bit warm in the house. Then it took two tries to get the right wifi network password. It was really warm by the time I figured out that the printer was accessing the Airport wifi instead of the cable company wifi. Great! The Airport has a bigger range and a shorter password. I can plug the printer in upstairs and it’ll work.
I love technology. Especially when it works sort of on the first attempt. 😀

      2. I congratulate You for being successful with Your printer 🙂 I don’t think I ever have been able to do that to anyone before 🙂 🙂

I’ve realised that I can use my neighbors Wifi if I want to, none of them seems to use passwords just because who would use it but them 🙂 🙂 Well my internet is cheap and I don’t even use all the data I have so no use in using theirs 🙂 Is the Airport password avcaliable for everyone?

  3. Hi Christer! Glad to hear life won! 🙂 Sometimes Mother Nature gives us a little nudge for relaxing and She does it with crappy weather! 🙂 That wasps nest is really pretty – totally different than the ones that are built here. Ours are not shaped like that and are always gray in color. So neat to see the different things around the world how they are created. I too went to my garden centre for sales. I got 6 cabbage plants for 50 cents, 2 perennial native grasses for $2 each and a 6 pack of lima bean plants for 50 cents. I hope things survive with all the rain we have had! 🙂 If there were free berries where I walk I would just sit in the bush and eat until I had to move. To another bush 🙂 Hope your day is going well!

    1. Hi Dianna!

I would have promised mother nature that I would have rested no matter what weatherv we’d have 🙂

I quite often find red wasp nests because they chew tree on red houses here 🙂 They are even more beautiful. Normally ours hang from a roof and then they have a very dífferent shape, I have a few hanging in the wood shed that I can take photos of, thankfully they are all without wasps 🙂

That was truly cheap for those plants! Our gardencenters usually don’t sell vegetables like that but one can quite often find them on markets in every town. Private persons grow and sell lots of them. I usually sold tomatoes, cucvumbers, different squash and berry plants like Physalis (Physalis peruviana).

All berries in the wild are free berries, we have a very old law here, All man’s right or the right of public access (I hope I managed to put in a link on that), that gives us all the right to do a lot of things and one of those things is that we can pick berries (and other edible things) everywhere in the nature. So I do more or less what You say You would 🙂

      Have a great day!

      Christer.

      1. Me again! The link worked and that is the nicest, neatest thing I have read in a long time! We have areas that people can go and pick or sit and think but I am unsure of our law for that. I would do both. Sit and pick and think. 🙂

      2. It is a great law but it was unwritten for several centuries. I think it was a Royal decree because people were starving and collecing berries, fruits and mushrooms would make it easier to survive the winter and since they could be out for days all the rest sort of followed, I’ve never heard that land owners ever have complained about it either.. As long as one doesn’t invade a garden one can do a lot in the nature here.

  4. Christer,
We had cold last week when the highest temperature was the high 60’s. Now we are paying for it with higher than normal temperatures. Luckily here on the cape we are much cooler than the rest of the state.

When I was young, we used to eat the blueberries and blackberries we found in the woods. There are no bushes like that around here. I have to buy the berries in the store.

My clematis isn’t ready to bloom yet, but it has spread. Now it is covering the tops of 3 fences in the front yard and soon the 4th piece will also be covered.

The plants I potted the other day have settled well into their new pots. I have to go out and water them later.

I’m glad to hear your cold may finally be on its way out.

    Have a great day!

    1. Hi Kat!

We do actually reach 68 most days here so if it hadn’t rained it would have been rather nice outside. We had thunder yesterday, the lightning hit the bog once a mile away and that was it 🙂 I wouldn’t have mind some more though so the flies would calm down.

Lots of berries even in the cities here, especially raspberries since they tend to grow everywhere 🙂 I really should pick some and either make jam or freeze them for later but the flies just keeps me away from all the berry bushes.

I’ve tried American clematis here but none has survived so far I’m afraid. Too bad because it would look so great with them climbing both the fence and the lilacs. If winter gets mild again I might buy more seeds and try them again.

It’s strange but even with all the rain here I still need to water my pots 🙂 I don’t have especially many pots but it sure takes time to water them 🙂

I hold my thumbs for the cold to be over but I won’t say hey yet 🙂

      Have a great day!

      Christer.

  5. Hi Christer, wasps and me do not agree. I swear they can sense when I have teied to swat them because rhey seem to go into attack mode. Thankfully we have not had too many in the years we were living in VA. One rime I was using the vacuum on a window and one was sucked up before I even knew it was there! The clementis is a pretty plant, but one I never planted. I really liked the potato flowers, especially the purple. Glad you voice has returned.

    1. Hi Beatrice!

Normally we just leave eachother alone but when they come too close and get aggressive I quickly get rid of them. A vacuum is absolutely perfect to use! Nothing can escape it and they die almost instantly of the pressure. I prefer that to poison to be honest but unfortunately I couldn’t do that this time since they lived in the fuse box and I had no idea where the nest was in there.

Yes potato flowers are beautiful. Here they actually had it as a flower iun the flowerbeds in the beginning 🙂

It is nice to be able to talk properly again 🙂

      Have a great day!

  6. love the photo of the deer in the grass!
and also the one of the fairies.

There were two wasps nests at work, out in the dog potty area.
One was hanging from the fence and another inside the metal bar of the fence where it was cracked and a hole was there. I told the vet but he hemmed and hawed, actually I think he was just too cheap to go buy wasp spray so I googled how to make some and I combined some essential oil, dish soap and water and sprayed them until they dropped to the ground. then I sprayed the nests until they were soggy and then I squished them.
If I left it up to Doc, I’d still be waiting.

    1. Hi Cindi!

I have to say that I wouldn’t trust a spray made by myself when it comes to wasps 🙂 🙂 but that spray is very much like the one I use for other pests like aphids. It suffocates the insect and the one we buy hits is a nerv gas hitting its nervs and brain. BOth ways are nasty but rather them than me.

      Have a great day!

      Christer.
